TW: I am going to allow Pres Obama a bit more time before I decide he is not a friend to the GLBTQ community and being pro two-state does not = being anti Israel and certainly not anti Americans of any certain faith.
JP: It’s been 4 1/2 months! Give the guy some time! Jeez! To quote Seth Myers “Let’s not forget, the last guy BROKE THE WORLD!” (though I do realize how much of an idiot I sound quoting SNL)
I appreciate the thought; we are currently having similar issues with a new mayor. It’s easy to have opinions but it’s much harder to be the one who has to make the decisions, especially if you’re the new guy. But, boy, I hope he was prepared for the issues well before the actual election. If he was a doctor, he wouldn’t get a breaking in period to make mistakes.
I would like to say that I did not say that he was “anti;” I might say that he is not as “pro” as some had hoped. I cannot give an opinion on the GLBTQ community, as I am not a part. I do comment on the other because I am American, Jewish, and Israeli, living in Jerusalem, where we would like to keep our city as it is, and where we are being directly effected by the new guy’s decisions. I gotta tell you that I’m itching to give away New York City as an international city that should be shared by the world.
Just a thought.

This is the day on which all of Israel remembers everyone who has fallen for her, soldier and bystander. Television and radio stations carry special programming, or go off the air, and entertainment is closed. Nationally, we know the name and the face, of every casualty, as it happened; few of us do not have a personal loss.
At eight o’clock in the evening, and again at eleven in the morning, the siren sounds, and the world . . . stops. Immediately and in place. Cars and buses, people in the grocery store, crossing the street, working, talking, all movement, it all stops. Stops. Every year, I am overwhelmed.

Indoctrination of children
Palestinian children are taught: Genocide is God’s will
I refrained from posting this sort of thing on Facebook after Shabbat, and I am trying to slow down now, but I fail now. I do not understand why sympathies lie with people who act like this, who cry death to entire, other groups; who teach their children that they will be rewarded for murder; who send their futures to walk into another group’s civilians and murder them at random, and afterward, to celebrate in the streets; who do not want for “their rights”, but only annihilation of their enemy; who walk into America and murder the same way; whose leaders hide, as they lie to their people as those leaders sacrifice them.
And yet, the enemy sends them aid, and warns their citizens out of dangerous areas, while Hamas’ leaders take no action, preferring to revel in the numbers of their own dead so that they can report how we are picking on them, even while they are entering our cities and blowing up civilians.
How can you negogiate in this situation? Even their own union is appalled.
Regardless of who is “right,” how can the approach be sanctioned? Does America allow the KKK and the skinheads to act the same? You don’t think that those groups are strongly sided with and admiring of Hamas’ tactics and goals? And yet, everyone has an opinion about Israel, believing that we should give in to such deadly tantrums. Tell me, when you give in to a child’s screaming insistence for a cookie, what does the child do the next time that he wants something? At what point can people see that Hamas does not want “fairness” but only to destroy us? No matter what people think is their end goal, unless we stop them now, Hamas will not stop until I and everyone around me is dead, and they can stand on our bodies and shout their triumph to the world.
Of course, that’ll kind of leave them without a purpose in life, and no way to get to Paradise, and they’ll have to find a new enemy. Think, Great Satan: who do you think will be next to be targeted?

Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Eli Yishai signed an order last night authorizing employers in the Gaza area to draft workers for jobs necessary for the upkeep of services in the area. Among the workers who can be drafted for work are state and city employees, who could be put to work provided essential services for residents.
The Israel Electric Company has also beefed up its staff in the area to deal with possible electrical outages that could result from rocket attacks by Gaza Arab terrorists. Many of the regular workers with jobs in the area have fled the western Negev fearing attacks,

Mashal Calls for Third Intifada
(IsraelNN.com)
Hamas’ top terrorist Khaled Mashal on Saturday night called for Arabs to open a third intifada against Israel. In a message aimed at Arabs in Judea and Samaria, Mashal said that “the intifada should be peaceful among Palestinians, and military against the Zionist enemy. This will save Gaza and protect the West Bank,” he said.
Mashal also promised that Hamas would respond to Israel’s attacks. He accused Israel of mass murder, saying “the world has not been witness to an uglier massacre.” He said that 205 Gaza Arabs had been killed, and 750 injured.
i’m pretty sure that 6 million was an uglier massacre.

Excerpted from: Youth: Reality TV Bad for Us
(IsraelNN.com) In a recent survey of youth, 96% said they watch reality TV and 42% think that it has a negative influence on them. The survey was conducted by the Israeli Zionist Council.
yes, yes, yes! but wait; if 96% watch, and only 42% . . . which leaves 54% . . . but still, 96% continue to watch . . .

For me, one of the greatest joys of living Israel is watching Judaism happen all around me. On the first night of Hanukah, I was blessed to make it happen for someone else.
I live in Shuk Mahane Yehuda, the Jerusalem Open Market. Actually, I live in an upper level of a building that is part of the structure of the Market; my balcony and living room window look directly onto its major thoroughfare.
It is traditional to light the Hanukkiah (usually called a Menorah) where it can be easily seen by passersby, and so I put mine in the most visible window where I lighted it, made the brachot, and settled it where it wouldn’t burn the curtain. As I glanced down onto the street, two young women glanced up at me, and became happily excited, pointing at the lights. We waved at each other, and then one took a picture, and I realized that they were tourists. I realized that I had allowed them to participate in my experience, enriching all of us, because I chose to be part of this capital-T Tradition. Because of me, it endures for a little longer.
B”H, and Hag sameach.
